I liked it. The acting was great, i didn't laugh at all the jokes but the ones that i did, i really did. I liked the characters from Rick Flagg, Amanda Waller, Deadshot, Harley was adorable, El Diablo was cool, Joker, well, I didn't mind him. Plus there was something i laughed that reminded me of "the pencil trick" (you know the one), its the kind of something you just don't expect it and when it does you go "yep, joker would do that!" now i know a lot of scenes were cut simply because the director wanted to focus on the squad because this isn't a "batman" movie or "joker" movie.

The villain, sure was lackluster but I didn't mind. What you see is what you get and this movie had tons of characters that you had to keep up with anyway from captain boomerang (comic relief) katana (boba fett like character) rick flagg (the character we're supposed to connect with) killer croc (kind of the drax/groot like character) Harley (the cute one) Deadshot (sympathetic anti-hero) Amanda Waller (loved her, she had a backbone that would make a spinosaurous blush). Some say the villain reminds them of a particular movie but I didn't mind because they also followed up with "because I saw this movie and that movie and they all had the same setting!". to me, i haven't seen most of those movies so it didn't affect me.

Do i wish it was a tad longer? yeah sure. But Warner Bros., stop messing with your directors visions. Trust them. The sacrifice of one less showtime is the price to pay for at least better reviews thus good word of mouth thus a bit more money and credibility. a 4.7 this is not.

I'd give this a 6 or 7 out of 10. Where it stands with the DCEU I don't think i'd buy it along with Man of steel, Batman V Superman. It's a rental, a nice side dish for things to come. I don't expect every movie DC/WB turning out to be grand events like the first two movies (yeah I saw them as such.), same how I view marvel and I only bought two of that series movies (iron man 1 and winter soldier)
well, my reaction when the credits rolled was simply mouthing wow. Still laughed, still cried, still got pumped, some scenes had me thinking and I even noticed some new things.......well besides the added stuff ;) saw the theatrical cut 3 times in cinema's.

Now the question on every one's minds is: "why Warner Bros.? Why was this cut, why weren't these scenes in the movie?!"

the simplest answer is of course: Money. You know it, I know it, executives don't care as long as it brings in the green. They don't care about the directors vision. cutting the run time so theaters can have more showings and cutting down the ratings so kids/teens can see it.

It does warm my heart that some people have apologized to director Zack Snyder on twitter and youtube. Zack is a visionary director, the dude went to art school before becoming a film director so he knows what it is to put meaning behind shots.

Now onto the movie; is it better than the original? I'd say yeah, sure. Not only does it answer some questions, not only does it build the world around the characters more, not only does it give Clark kent the reporter and Lois Lane more to do, but it puts some scenes back together as well, for example the scene where we're introduced to Lex doesn't end with him smiling at senator finch about "depending upon the kindness of monsters." then we cut to another scene, instead it cuts to him talking to the other politician guy (the one he feeds a cherry jolly rancher to.) it helps get it all done and out of the way.

Now i liked the theatrical cut as well, it, but this is good too. some already existing scenes are extended to help soak in whats happened or what is happening.

some people will still complain about Jessie's performance as lex, some people will still complain about batman killing (even though he killed batman 89 and the dark knight yet people still loved those movies), some still think the scene that finishes their fight is stupid, some will still think superman is still too mopey, etc. But at the end of the day, I think its still a good movie that respects its audience and really asks them to think to put the pieces together themselves. Characters are broken down to their cores to grow as characters, they'll obviously be different the next time we see them in Justice League not because the critics and haters but because it was planned since the beginning.

Speaking of justice league, "oh its just setting up for future movies" some critics say. Oh, just like every other marvel film? C'mon guys, there's criticism and there's hypocrisy and most critiques are the latter which i cannot take seriously like "there's no humor!" first of all, yes there is and second of all, jokes don't make the movie if its not what its trying to accomplish. if the genre it has was labeled "action/comedy" then I'd expect jokes but this movie is actually "action/drama".

overall i gave the theatrical cut a tight 7. the more i thought about it, its really close to a 7.9 but not quite an 8. I'd give this cut a solid 8.5. I enjoyed it, glad I own a copy, cannot wait for future movies to come. Bring on Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman and Justice League!
let me start off by saying I'm appalled and disgusted by all the negativity and hateful scorn towards Mr. Snyder and think it absolutely needs to stop. saying he's worse than Uwe boll? the comic equivalent to Michael bay? wanting the man fired, this is absolutely ridiculous. Not since Schumacher have I seen such lustful hate that i feel the need to take a stand for the man that actually did some justice to these comic book characters. Zack Snyder though, doesn't need to apologize to ANYONE. He did man of steel wonderfully. He made two great comic book movies like 300 and watchmen. Just because he made 1 or 2 movies (the owls and sucker punch) that you didn't watch, or didn't want to understand you suddenly label him a hack? no ones perfect people. speaking of hacks i loooove how people are hating on goyer even though he wrote your precious dark knight (even though i didn't like that movies script much yet i liked man of steel, like i said no ones perfect). but i digress. lets move on.

complaints i agree with is pacing. This is a legit one because this doesn't take its time on certain scenes that would be otherwise important. it doesn't let us soak in certain elements, they'll be either too short, BOOM next scene.* ok so what just happened was-*BOOM next scene* wait wha-*Boom next scene* NOW WHERE ARE WE?! *boom next scene* see what i mean? we don't get enough time to know relations with other characters or how certain characters feel. thats not to say all of them are bad, some get it through just enough.

This movie like man of steel is not afraid to not hold your hand or spoon feed you. it respects its audience to think, use their brain to put the pieces together themselves unlike most nolan movies today that give up characterization in favor of telling you ever bit of detail and lecturing you as if you were a dumby. after thinking it through i was able to get it easily.

the plot: Alex jr. is a mastermind. he's jealous of and hates superman because i believe he has a bit of a god complex or daddy issues. its not totally clear. enter lois lane; trying to find out about his plans before our heroes do. Lex buys rights to and asks the kryptonian ship that crashed from the last movie to tell him about other stuff about the universe. batman learns there are other heroes like him and superman when trying to find out about a criminal connected to lex's plan to frame superman and manipulate bruce thanks to diana prince aka wonder woman. lex and a senator cross ways, senator says she's willing to talk with superman but she wont take lex's side either. lex kills her and frames superman while sending notes to bruce wayne about letting his family die, straw that breaks the camels back. batsy and supes fight, they get along, lex makes doomsday as a failsafe in case which causes superman to sacrifice himself for his world (lois), lex goes to jail, tells batman a bell has been rung and someones coming. Bruce wants to find these other super powered people to fight this upcoming evil. to be continued.

ok i can see and somewhat agree that there's one too many things crammed in here. i can understand why that bothers some people and i don't hold that against others. could this have been a little more simplified? absolutely. I can think of a couple of scenes that i would have cut out for more time for other scenes but i can only hope the extended cut will be much better.

what this movie has; character development, symbolism, and emotion. i laughed, cried, cheered, smiled, this is a thought provoking movie and you're gonna need to use your brain to make sense of this. now to those of you who say "stop thinking out of your ass, a bad movies a bad movie how sad of you to be defending it" stop it. who are you to tell others what to think? Don't be a dictator. These are just movies for entertainment, not politics. Allow people to gush over to one another why they loved it so much and if you want to brush it off, fine don't let the door hit you on the way out. And please notice how i didn't call you an idiot or moron for not thinking the way i do unlike certain nolan fanboys. yeah i haven't forgotten about those death threats either.

onto characterization, our main titled heroes.

batman is essentially in "no more bs" mode. after what appears to be an event where he lost a robin combined with what happened in metropolis. alfred says this quote about "the feeling of powerlessness that turns good men cruel", how "everything has changed" in action batman is careless. if someone dies directly or indirectly of his actions, he doesn't care. he's had enough. there are rumors going about that the bat branding signifies death in the begining of the movie. people, batman has killed in every other live action film except batman & robin (though that is hated for entirely different reasons) in Tim Burtons batman he killed for no reason. this one however i think there is. HOWEVER you can guess that he may have killed in his earlier years too. its not clear enough but i believe its because of the stuff batmans been through is what made him this way. more on this later. right now on to superman.

superman still saving lois whenever she needs it, clark is in a stable relationship with her to which i find sweet.

he wants to prove that the batman is dangerous but his boss wont let him because the people don't care. He's upset that not everyone is happy with him, "i dont care what they think" the religious ones for example who worship him, he never asked for that. but if he were to say "hey im no god" he'd probably get flak and he knows he's had plenty of that. he is tired of the backlash no matter what he does whether it be dragging a lost ship, saving astronauts from a burning shuttle, someone from a burning building, etc. it shows even he has limits on his patience. humanity today is so critical and angry I'm sure anyone would be fed up for a even a little while despite having super powers.

"be anything they need you to be or don't. you don't owe this world a thing, you never did." his talk with ma kent tells us that he's not doing all this for recognition, or out of repayment, but that he does these good deeds because he's a good person. He always has been. Even before he put on the cape.

He goes into self exile after being framed murder because he wishes he could have saw it coming and stop it. so he goes soul searching again (side note: this scene needed a better transition) and gets a heartwarming talk from his fathers ghost, thus he learns that ma kent was Jonathon's world and did whatever it took to save his world. he loves his mom and is willing to take a risk to save her. he respected his fathers wishes to not do anything back then, now he's free to do something, anything to save his loved ones. "no one stays good forever" it shows that despite what people think like "oh he's some higher authority and thus knows lots of stuff" no. he's just a normal everyday man who just happens to have super powers, isn't that in itself relatable? he's just as human as all of us. he's not perfect. he doesn't consider himself the higher moral ground, He has patience that can easily be broken if you test him, and he's willing to make sacrifices of himself, his image just to protect the things he cares about.

He doesn't kill batman. He tries to talk to him but Batman wouldn't listen. the kryptonite takes its toll on superman and it seemed it was too late until he mentions a "martha". this opens batmans eyes; at first he thought superman was talking about martha wayne. how much did he know? lois comes in to tell him who he really meant. Batman then learns that superman's just as much a man as he is. he has people he cares about. superman managed to get through that loop by using the goodness in him. could it have easily been explained away in one sentence? perhaps. but batman was so caught up and angry due to being manipulated by lex's actions that he was so far gone he was willing to go that far and the only thing that could stop him was the mentioning of the thing that inspired him to be the batman in the first place. "I wont let this martha die" here's where the deep thinking comes in; batman could have turned superman into the very thing he was scared of him becoming. just like him. someone who's lost hope and isn't concerned with the lives of others around him..

we see batman reflect on this and say "i've failed him in life. i wont fail him in death". we see him not branding lex, the brand being said to be a death sentence. there's a sense of pride seeing him not do that. even though he says he wants to form the justice league and be its leader, it STILL doesn't feel like he's overshadowing superman because, well they think he's dead. He's taking some responsibility and I feel proud of him for that. "men are still good"

This isn't the heroes you know from the comics. these are completely new, fresh takes on them. For that i applaud them.

Gal did well enough to not be criticized too much but this movie isn't about her. some may have problem with her accent, some say she's reading cue cards but eh. she got the job done well enough and i cannot wait for wonder womans solo movie (and aquamans)

so in conclusion

cons
poor pacing & editing, jessie's performance is a mixed bag at times. a little too long and some scenes could have been cut or saved for later movies.

pros
good characterization, music, doesn't hold your hand/spoon feed you
solid acting, beautiful cinematography, feels like you're watching a comic book, amazing action sequences

7/10.
Kion's ok, he gets my pass so far. =) its at his song is when i started to warm up to him, felt a sense of pride how he stuck it to his old man and made his own choice and team. nice choice of catchphrase too to boot. (till the pride lands end, lion guard defend)
i dislike bunga, he seemed like he hogged the screen time a bit and i did not like his repetitive song. his lines too xp bleh. I do however get honey badgers though, sometimes, they just dont give a crap.
simba, ugh i hate his new voice. not the actor, just the low tone he decided to go with. In this he seems like such a worry wart critic but by the end becomes proud of his son
nala, still in the background with little lines. i want more mama nala scenes disney, this is probably your last chance.
rafiki, still cray cray xD
timon and pumba, still lovable,
kiara seems awfully mature, probably to show how much older she is compared to well, lets be honest; baby brother. we see here that she wants to be queen. However I'm sure her mind will change as the show goes on. my other theory was that she was putting on a show to bug her brother like siblings usually do.

i loved ono the egret! its gotta be his voice :3
zuri was adorable, tiffu too but, who's cubs are they? hmmm....
i wanna love fuli too.
haven't seen much of beshte, seems alright though. no complaints as long as he doesnt have the fat issues cliche
scars backstory has been revealed and yet to some; retconed. but who's to say this doesnt fit with the backstory from six new adventures despite that not being canon?
muffy's cameo was alright
the new hyena's, i wasnt expecting another lion or zira, but only one of them i liked. im not expecting them to be banzai's, shenzi or eds unless they have the courage to delve deep into that.

might i add i loved the homage to the original opening with hans zimmers score in the background?

the story was simple, as to be expected from a kids show. i evented a drinking game for adults though. take a shot every time they say "lion guard".

welp over all its an ok start. till then we'll wait for more episodes to judge further =)
